World Cup 2022: Ghana legend Dan Owusu confident Black Stars will progress despite defeat against Portugal in Group H opener

Ghana legend Dan Owusu is confident the Black Stars will progress from their group despite defeat against Portugal in the World Cup opener.

Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player in World Cup history to score five times, with his second-half penalty giving Portugal the lead against Ghana last Thursday.

Ghana's Andre Ayew then equalized, but two goals in three minutes from Joao Felix and Rafael Leao secured the victory and moved Portugal to the top of Group H, despite Osman Bukari's late winner.

The Black Stars will take on South Korea in their second Group H game on Monday afternoon at the Education City Stadium.

And ahead of the game, the three-time Ghana Premier League goal king winner has expressed optimism about the Black Stars qualification.

“This year’s World Cup is full of surprises and so, know team can be underrated. With a little push you can excel. Before our game against Portugal, many Ghanaians had underrated Ghana but the players proved everyone wrong despite the defeat”

“The players did very well against Portugal but one mistake Otto Addo did was Andre Ayew substitution. I think Ghana can progress from the group if the players replicate the performance against Portugal” he told Koforidua-based Bryt FM.

“I still don’t understand why Otto Addo substituted Ayew. The referee who officiated our game against Portugal must be punished, I expect FIFA to sanction him. It might be also that, the officials who operated the VAR were asleep because I think the referee should have consulted VAR to clarify things. Africans always suffer from bad officiating” he said.
