World Cup 2022: Inaki Williams nearly made history with late attempt against Portugal

Published on: 25 November 2022

Black Stars striker Inaki Williams almost stunned Portugal with a spectacular late equalizer that left Cristiano Ronaldo speechless.

With the Black Stars behind Ronaldo's Portugal 3-2 in stoppage time, the Athletic Bilbao attacker stood behind goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who had the ball in his hands.

Costa failed to look behind him, and Williams snuck up behind him to win the ball after he had rolled it out.

But, at a crucial time, the 28-year-old made contact with the keeper and slipped. Danilo Pereira cleared off the line as captain Ronaldo held his head in disbelief following the amazing escape.

After the game, Inaki Williams reacted to Black Stars defeat to Portugal in the 2022 World Cup.

“There is no time for regrets, there are 2 games left still, thank you fans for the unconditional support” he tweeted.

The defeat means Ghana is bottom of Group H after Uruguay and South Korea played out a goalless draw earlier on Thursday.

The Black Stars will now turn their attention to their upcoming matches against South Korea and Uruguay on November 28 and December 2, respectively.
