World Cup 2022: It is a moment of great joy - Joao Felix on scoring against Ghana

Published on: 26 November 2022

Portugal forward Joao Felix is elated to score his World Cup goal against Ghana at the on-going global showpiece in Qatar.

After a goalless firs half, Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring for Portugal via the penalty spot but Ghana improved after the goal and scored the equalised through skipper Andre Ayew from close range.

Portugal responded with two goals in two minutes to seal the points - Joao Felix converting a delightfully clipped finish and substitute Rafael Leao coolly stroking in just seconds after coming on. Osman Bukari headed in a late consolation for Ghana and there could have been real drama in the ninth minute of stoppage time.

"Of course, it's a feeling of relief [to score a goal], for everything that has happened this season [at Atlético de Madrid]. I do my job, I always try to help the club and, in this case, the national team. I never make it easy, even though people think I do. I always do my job, I try to do my best and make the fans happy," Felix said after the game.

“It is a moment of great joy [to score in a World Cup]. I only remembered my family, my friends. I just thought about how they should be. My mother must have had a stroke. This goal is for all of them.”

"In a World Cup, all teams are strong, there are no easy games, we have to make them easy."

The defeat means Black Stars are bottom of Group H after Uruguay and South Korea played out a goalless draw earlier on Thursday.

The Black Stars will now switch their attention to their attention to the match against South Korea on Monday before taking on Uruguay on December 2 at the Education City stadium.
