World Cup 2022: It was not an easy victory against Morocco - France coach Deschamps

Published on: 15 December 2022

France coach Didier Deschamps is happy with the performance of his players after beating Morocco 2-0 in the semi-final of the 2022 World Cup on Wednesday.

The Atlas Lions made history becoming the first African side to reach the semifinals of a FIFA World Cup, following their 1-0 win over Portugal at the quarter finals but they fell short against holders.

France took an early lead through Theo Hernandez’s scrambled fifth minute goal before substitute Kolo Muani made it 2-0 in the 79th minute to ensure they will defend their crown against Argentina and Lionel Messi at Lusail Stadium on Sunday.

"I am immensely proud. It is great to be through to the final but it was not an easy victory," Deschamps said after the game.

"We needed a mixture of quality, experience and team spirit, and in difficult periods we had to dig deep but I am really satisfied and proud of my players."
