World Cup 2022: It's really unbelievable - Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on reaching semis

Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat says it's a proud moment for the Arab country after beating Portugal 1-0 to become the first-ever African team to reach semi-finals of the World Cup.

Striker Youssef En-Nesyri scored the winning goal in the first half, leaping highest to beat goalkeeper Diogo Costa to the ball at Al Thumama Stadium.

The north African side’s supporters populated most of the venue and joyously celebrated their breakthrough moment for their continent on the global stage.

"It's really, really, really unbelievable. I'm so proud. We deserve this 1000 per cent.

"That's just how we fight and how play, with our heart, for our country and for our people. We had some injuries and to have three defenders go in and defend like that, big respect.s

"Big respect for everybody - for the fans, for the coach, for everyone," Amrabat after the game.

Morocco had become the fourth African nation to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup, following in the footsteps of Cameroon (1990), Senegal (2002) and Ghana (2010).

Morocco will face holders France in the last four.
