World Cup 2022: It's the perfect time for Ghana to get their revenge on Uruguay - Marcel Desailly

Published on: 23 November 2022

Former France international Marcel Desailly believes this is the perfect time for Ghana to take revenge on Uruguay at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Black Stars were eliminated by the two-time champions on penalties in South Africa, having seen Asamoah Gyan miss an extra-time spot-kick after Luis Suarez was sent off for handball.

Ghana take on Portugal in their first game in Group H on November 24 before playing South Korea and Uruguay on November 28 and December 2 respectively.

"Everyone will be delighted if Ghana can impress in the tournament," Desailly said. "I think it's the perfect time for Ghana to get their revenge on Uruguay."

“Group H is not an easy group, but there is a possibility if you start with a bright atmosphere."

Ghana are making a record 4th World Cup appearance in Qatar having previously played in the 2006, 2010 and 2014 in Germany, South Africa and Brazil respectively.

Black Stars, who are the lowest-ranked team at the tournament have been drawn in Group H alongside Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

Ghana will take on Portugal in their first game at Stadium 974 (Rass Abou Aboud) on Thursday before playing South Korea and Uruguay on November 28 and December 2 respectively.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup takes place between November 20 and December 18, 2022.

Only three sides from the continent have ever progressed to the quarter-finals; Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002, and Ghana in 2010.

Ghana will be hoping to progress from the group stage at this year's tournament.

Black Stars exited the group stage at the 2014 edition in Brazil after a slow start to the tournament.
