World Cup 2022: Morocco goalkeeper Bono names his dog after his idol Ariel Ortega

Published on: 07 December 2022

Goalkeeper Bono was the hero in Morocco's penalty shootout with Spain in the round of 16 game played yesterday.

Sabiri, Ziyech, and Achraf scored, Sarabia hit the post, and Bono stopped a shot from Carlos Soler. Unai's attempt to stop Benoun's shot was futile since Busquets, the world champion 12 years ago, did not score minutes later. Bono saved the penalty once more.

He is known as Bono in football circles, but his real name is Yassine Bounou. He is 31 years old and became known on November 27 after he disappeared from the Morocco vs. Belgium group stage game after singing the national anthem.

"He felt sick," explained the coach at the end of the game and clarified the mystery.

The goalkeeper of Sevilla in Spain is a fan of River Plate in Argentina, and his idol is Ariel Ortega. Bono named his dog after his River Plate idol. His breed is an Alaskan Malamute, and he looks like a wolf.
