Morocco on Tuesday evening defeated Spain 3-0 on penalties to reach the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament.

Today’s feat is historic in the sense that Morocco becomes only the fourth African country to reach the last eight stage of the mundial.

In today’s Round 16 match between Morocco and Spain, both teams put up a spirited performance throughout the 90 minutes, but neither side could score in 90 minutes.

Subsequently, the match travelled into extra time for a chance for the two sides to try and find a goal to decide the game.

With no goals in 30 minutes, it all came down to the penalty shootout to settle the contest.

Unfortunately, for Spain, none of the three players that had the chance to play managed to score.

With Morocco scoring three out of four kicks, the Atlas Lions are celebrating another massive win at the 2022 FIFA World Cup that is sending the side to the quarter-finals of the tournament.

This is the first time Morocco have reached the last 8 stage of a FIFA World Cup tournament.

The other countries who have reached the quarterfinals of a world cup tournament include Ghana, Senegal, and Cameroon.
