World Cup 2022: Morocco leave Qatar disappointed but filled with pride - Walid Regragui

Published on: 15 December 2022

Morocco head coach Walid Regragui is filled with pride despite losing 2-0 to France in the semi-final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar on Wednesday.

The Atlas Lions made history becoming the first African side to reach the semifinals of a FIFA World Cup, following their 1-0 win over Portugal at the quarter finals but they fell short against holders.

France took an early lead through Theo Hernandez’s scrambled fifth minute goal before substitute Kolo Muani made it 2-0 in the 79th minute to ensure they will defend their crown against Argentina and Lionel Messi at Lusail Stadium on Sunday.

"We realise that we made a great achievement already," Regragui told reporters. "We know that the media, social media, and on TV, we saw the pictures, and we saw that everyone was proud of us in our country.

"We're disappointed for the Moroccan people tonight, we wanted to keep the dream alive. But we're pleased with what we've achieved. We felt that we could have even gone even further but these small details help real champions, which we saw tonight, of course."
