World Cup 2022: Morocco play to their strengths - Ex-Nigeria skipper Oliseh

Published on: 16 December 2022

Former Nigeria international Sunday Oliseh has lauded the defensive display of Morocco at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Prior to the semi-finals against France, the Atlas Lions had kept four clean sheets in five matches and were denied 100 per cent record by an own goal conceded against Canada in the group stage.

Theo Hernandez and substitute Kolo Muani scored to send the holders to the final and will defend their crown against Argentina at Lusail Stadium on Sunday.

"Morocco play to their strengths," Oliseh told BBC Sport Africa.

"You have to be realistic. If they had [had] another calibre of players, then we would have complained for them to play the way they did.

"But they looked at their team and said: 'OK, we are like this and we'll play like this'. It worked out."

Prior to Morocco's historic campaign, only Cameroon (in 1990), Senegal (2002) and Ghana (2010) had ever progressed to the World Cup quarter-finals for Africa.
