World Cup 2022: Odds, and betting tips for Portugal vs Ghana

Published on: 23 November 2022

The only other time Ghana faced Portugal, former Machester United attacker Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the 80th minute to give his team a 2-1 win, after Asamoah Gyan's 57th minute goal.

It wasn't enough as both countries were eliminated from the 2014 World Cup group stage behind Germany and the United States in Group G.

Instead of completing group stage play, the two will begin it with an eye on preparing for a significant knockout stage push, knowing that Uruguay and South Korea also lurk in a tough group.

The odds favor Portugal, which is rated ninth in the world, against Ghana, which is placed 61st.

The odds also indicate significant anticipation that Portugal would hold Ghana scoreless, with a large shift towards neither team scoring.

Ghana has the World Cup's youngest roster, with an average age of 24.7 years. There are 12 players that are 23 years old or younger, including two youngsters. Denis Odoi and the Ayew brothers are the only players above 30.

Portugal has never gone past the Round of 16 in a FIFA World Cup, with the exception of a fourth-place result in 2006. They've lost twice in the Round of 16 and three times in the group stage.

Cristiano Ronaldo's World Cup goals have all come in the group stage.

Injury news:

Portugal's World Cup squad is missing three players due to injury, none more so than Liverpool striker Diogo Jota, who was in fantastic form until suffering a major hamstring injury in early October. In addition, they are without Wolves winger Pedro Neto (ankle) and Leicester City defender Ricardo Pereira (Achilles).

Joe Wollacott, the Black Stars' goalkeeper, suffered a finger injury during a warm-up with Charlton Athletic.
