World Cup 2022: Otto Addo insists Ghana took no comfort in Uruguay woe as both teams exit competition

Otto Addo has disclosed that Ghana did not celebrate after denying Uruguay a chance to reach the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Black Stars lost 2-0 to Uruguay at Al Janoub stadium on Friday as both teams crashed out of the tournament.

Giorgio de Arrascaeta scored both goals within eight minutes of the first half to dent Ghana’s hopes of making it to the second round of the tournament after Andre Ayew missed from the penalty spot.

"I don't know who said it, but nobody told them what the [South Korea] score was," Otto Addo said after the game.

"I don't know how they would know. For us, it was about trying to score. As a coach for more than 12 years, I have had games where we led 3-0 and lost 4-3. Anything can happen.

"I don't think anyone was thinking about this, but I definitely wasn't. Everyone saw wild games with goals in the last minutes. We just wanted to equalise, which would have gotten us through."
