World Cup 2022: Portugal and Al Duhail defender Ruben Semedo reveals great Portuguese fan base in Qatar ahead of Ghana clash

Al Duhail midfielder Ruben Semedo has opened up on the atmosphere of the Portugal national team in Qatar ahead of the 2022 World Cup opener against Ghana.

The Black Stars who are returning to the global showpiece after missing out in Russia 2018 has been housed in Group H against Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.

On Thursday, Ghana will open their account the European giants before they face South Korea and Uruguay respectively.

The Portuguese midfielder who plies his trade in the Asian country has disclosed a great atmosphere around the Selecao team ahead of their encounter with Ghana.

“Certainly you will have a lot of support. Portugal is a very beloved country here in Qatar and I experienced it in one of the games, in which I had the support of the Portuguese, which was really incredible”

“I wasn't expecting it, of course, but it was something that exceeded my expectations and I'm sure that for the national team it will be much, much better than it was in my game. You can expect supporters who will cheer for the national team from start to finish and, God willing, it will be until the final”

Meanwhile, Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo is anticipating a very tough game against Ghana when they face off on Thursday.

“I believe our national team has tremendous potential to win the World Cup. We will see. I believe we can. I have that hope, that belief.

“But like these competitions always teach us; we must think calmly. We must think and focus on the first group game. We must think about the Ghana game which is the most difficult one. We must start well, gain some confidence and we will go from there,” he said at a news conference.
