World Cup 2022: Profile of Alexander Djiku

Alexander Djiku is part of Ghana’s defenders named in the final 26 man squad for the tournament which will be held in Doha, Qatar.

Djiku spent his younger years at Bastia from 2012 to 2014. He was a reserve squad player until 2014 when he was promoted to the main team. He joined Caen after three years with the club. In December 2013, Alexander Djiku made his debut in a Coupe de la Ligue match against Evian.

On July 11, 2017, Alexander Djiku signed a four-year contract with Ligue 1 club Stade Malherbe Caen.

Strasbourg signed Alexander Djiku in the summer of 2019. The Montpellier-born defender can play in a number of positions. He can play as a right-back, center back, and a defensive midfielder. The 28-year-old is 182cm tall. Alexander Djiku prefers to play with his right foot. His strengths are positioning, ball interception, and aerial duels.

On October 9, 2020, he made his senior Ghana national team debut in a 3-0 friendly loss to Mali. On October 12, 2020, he made his second appearance for Ghana against Qatar, and he excelled. Djiku's third match occurred when the Black Stars' new head coach gave him the opportunity to start against Zimbabwe in a World Cup qualifier, which Ghana won 3-1. He represented Ghana in the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon. Alexander Djiku has made eighteen appearances for the Black Stars and scored one goal. His highest market value according to Transfermarkt is €10 million as of May 30, 2022.

This season he has played in all Strasbourg’s league games scored one goal, and assisted one.  Alexander Djiku’s contract with RC Strasbourg Alsace runs until 30th June, 2023. Alexander Djiku last match for RC Strasbourg was against Lorient in Ligue 1 on Sunday, and the match ended with a 1 – 1 result.
