World Cup 2022: Profile of Inaki Williams

Inkai Williams has been included in Ghana's final squad for the 2022 World Cup which will be held in Qatar from November 20th and end on December 18th.

Born in Bilbao, Biscay to Ghanaian parents, Williams spent most of his childhood living in Pamplona, specifically the Rochapea neighborhood, and was playing youth football with local CD Pamplona when he was spotted by Athletic Bilbao, who signed him to their youth setup at Lezama at the age of 18.

Williams made his first-team and La Liga debut, starting in a 1–0 home loss against Córdoba on December 6th, 2014.

He netted his first goal on 19 February of the following year, starting and contributing to a 2–2 draw at Torino in the UEFA Europa League round of 32.

Inaki Williams made his long awaited debut for the Black Stars of Ghana in their international friendly game against Brazil.

Ghana took on Brazil in September at Le Havre in France. Both teams used this friendly game to prepare for the 2022 World Cup which will be held in Qatar. The Selecao beat Ghana 3-0, PSG defender Marquinhos scored the first goal and Tottenham attacker scored a brace.

Inaki Williams was also involved in Ghana's second friendly game against Nicaragua. The game was held in Lorca, Spain the Black Stars beat the South American side 1-0.

Inaki Williams switched nationalities this year after months of speculation. He released a video that went viral to announce the switch.

The attacker has started the season well with Bilbao, he has played fourteen games, scored five goals, and assisted one in La Liga.

The 28-year-old has made over 340 first-team appearances for Bilbao, including a La Liga record of over 230 consecutive games.

His younger brother, Nico, is also a footballer and a forward; he too was brought up at Athletic Bilbao. Nico has been included in Spain's final squad for the World Cup.
