World Cup 2022: We're living the dream and we don't want to wake up - Morocco's Sofiane Boufal

Published on: 11 December 2022

Morocco forward Sofiane Boufal says he and his teammates are still in dreamland after beating Portugal 1-0 to progress to the World Cup semi-finals on Saturday.

Striker Youssef En-Nesyri scored the winning goal in the first half, leaping highest to beat goalkeeper Diogo Costa to the ball at Al Thumama Stadium.

The north African side’s supporters populated most of the venue and joyously celebrated their breakthrough moment for their continent on the global stage.

"It's crazy. We're living the dream and we don't want to wake up. I have goosebumps," Boufal said after the final whistle.

"Everything we have, we deserve. We work hard. It's not over. There's still the semi-final and God willing, the final."

Boufal has featured in all five World Cup matches.

Morocco had become the fourth African nation to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup, following in the footsteps of Cameroon (1990), Senegal (2002) and Ghana (2010).

The game is scheduled to take place at Al Bayt Stadium on Wednesday.
