Yaw Yeboah: My tricks with the ball? I often watch Messi and Neymar do it

Published on: 01 September 2021

The great goal scored by Yaw Yeboah in the game against Gornik Leczna is still echoing. The goal of Wisla's footballer, who left Krakow after the match against Legia Warszawa for the Ghana national team camp, was noticed by FIFA and may be among the most beautiful goals of the year, which aspire to the Ferenc Puskas 2021. Yeboah is getting well-deserved congratulations, also in his home country. Before he flew to Africa, he gave an interview to the local TV station 3Sports, telling on Zoom about his fascination with the tricks of Leo Messi and Neymar.

"I am a creative, attacking player. And if so, sometimes I should decide on individual actions. The team needs it - said Yaw Yeboah in an interview with the 3Sports station broadcasting from his hometown Accra, when asked about the goal from the 5th round of the Polish league"

"Before the game, I spoke to the coach and he said to me: "Yeboah, you have talent, you have everything you need. When you are in front of the goal, do what you can. When I got the ball, I was looking for a pass, but there was no option. So I thought, "OK, I'll just do what I can." I got on the ball, did a few tricks and was successful"

After passing several Gornik players in the penalty area and hitting the net, the Ghanaian believed in himself even more. At Wisla's training sessions, he always excelled in dribbling, but since then he has been doing it more often and with greater ease. During the games in Myslenice, the Krakow defenders have to be very careful not to experience what Bartosz Rymaniak had to do in Leczna.

The video with Yeboah's spectacular goal quickly became a viral online, even publicized by FIFA.

"It's great to wake up and see my movie gaining popularity and everyone around the world talking about it. I'm glad to do this and that people are sharing it too. I feel great about it. I am proud of it" emphasizes Yeboah.

He added that he had received a lot of congratulations from around the world, including from Senegalese Kalidou Koulibaly, who he had the opportunity to face at the beginning of August in a friendly match between Wisla and Napoli. And he continues that this is not the first goal of this type in his career, because he scored after dribbling by defenders also in Spain and in the U-23 match against Algeria. To tell the truth, however, they do not make such an impression as a hit in Poland.

Return to the Ghana national team

Yeboah has scored three goals in the current season, which means he is close to doubling his achievements from all previous competitions (4 goals, including one against Legia). His disposition was noticed by the Ghana national team coach. A call-up came to Krakow, the first for Yeboah from coach Charles Akonnor, who has been working with the national team since January 2020.

The 24-year-old played for Ghana's youth squad, achieving success of 3rd place in the 2015 African U-20 Championship, but the only time he played in the senior squad was on June 9, 2019 in a friendly match against Namibia (1-0). He then played 90 minutes, and then was called up to the general team for training camps in Dubai before the finals of the African Nations Cup. And he experienced quite a disappointment, because eventually James Kwesi Appiah omitted him when selecting a team of 23. Yeboah, who was Numancia's player at the time, behaved in a classy manner.
