Sam Nicholson's right footed shot from the left side of the box to the bottom left corner gave Colorado Rapids the lead in the 9th minute.
In the 37th minute, Lucas Zelarayán's right footed shot from the centre of the box landed in the bottom right corner of the net to give Columbus Crew the equalizer. Lucas Zelarayán's goal was assisted by Yaw Yeboah with a cross.
Sean Zawadzki's header in the 62nd minute from the centre of the box to the centre of the goal gave Crew the lead. His goal was assisted by Lucas Zelarayán with a cross following a corner.
Cucho Hernández made it 3-1 in the 7nd minute. His right footed shot from the centre of the box landed in the bottom right corner. Cucho's goal was assisted by Lucas Zelarayán.
Cole Bassett scored Colorado Rapids second goal in injury time.
