Yeni Malatyaspor midfielder Afriyie Acquah set sights on Black Stars return

Yeni Malatyaspor midfielder Afriyie Acquah is eyeing a return to the senior national team of Ghana, the Black Stars.

The 27-year-old has been out of the Black Stars since representing them at the 2018 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where they exited at the Round of 16.

He was recently omitted from coach CK Akonnor's 23-man squad for the postponed double-header 2021 Afcon qualifiers Sudan.

The former Torino midfielder has been in fine form for Yeni Malatyaspor in the Turkish top-tier league and has been linked with a move to some clubs in Europe.

"I’m hoping to make a return to the national team despite missing the first call-up C.K Akonnor made," Acquah told Suncity Radio.

"I believe I’m still in his plans because he had a limited or short time to name his squad [for the Sudan double-header].

"I’m aware he went around Europe to monitor some of the players, so I hope he will give me the chance when the need arises."
