Zaccardo: AC Milan are right to stick with Gattuso

With AC Milan currently sitting fifth in Serie A, Cristian Zaccardo believes the Rossoneri are right to stick with current boss Gennaro Gattuso, at least until the end of the season.

After a problematic campaign so far, in which performances haven’t been as expected, the Zaccardo thinks that the sheer number of players out ca partly explain their current position.

“Injuries are part of football,” Zaccardo told RMC Sport. “Caldara and Conti are two great players, but they have been unlucky with injuries.

“Some new acquisitions have not done as well as everyone expected, like Higuain for example who hasn’t scored for several games.”

Looking towards the winter transfer window, Zaccardo is clear on where Milan need to strengthen.

“Gattuso knows the team well and said they needed a midfielder and a striker,” the former Rossoneri defender continued.

“It won’t be easy to stat with the Financial Fair Play rules, but they have to find opportunities. Plus we are all curious to see Paqueta.

“The team, on paper, can get fourth, fifth or sixth. Milan are there, or thereabouts and we still have the second half of the season to go.

“Milan lost a lot of points on the road, but with the injured players coming back, I hope they can find some consistency.

“The squad is with Gattuso, so the backing of the board is totally right, and he must stay in charge until the end of the season.

“After that, conclusions will be made and the correct decisions taken. If they get fourth, then Gattuso will stay, otherwise other choices will be put forward.”
