The Member of Parliament for the Klottey Korle Constituency believes the maiden Democracy Cup will serve as a unifying factor between parliamentarians and the public.

The inaugural event, scheduled for July 5, will see Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak vying for the championship title. The triumphant team will subsequently secure a chance to challenge American club DC United in Washington later this year.

This thrilling news was unveiled during the Cup's launch, an event commemorating the 30th anniversary of Ghana's Fourth Republic.

Reacting after the launch of the competition, Agyeman-Rawlings said, “It's an important thing because it's a way of creating a bridge between the public and parliament by using sports as a unifying factor.

“We all know how powerful sports is as a unifying factor and this is something that's supposed to celebrate the 30 years of uninterrupted parliamentary democracy.

“We hope it will go forward and not just be in Ghana but in the sub-region and across the continent as we seek to build bridges between various democracies across the country using sports.”
