Zulte Waregem Chief Executive Officer Eddy Cordier has expressed his delight following the signing of Ghanaian defender Daniel Opare.

Opare penned a two-year deal with the club as a free agent after his contract with Royal Antwerp expired at the end of last season.

The 29-year-old is expected to use his huge experience to help the club fight for a top-four position after they finished this season in ninth position.

"Due to the corona crisis, the transfer summer starts later than usual. We are happy to make our first move in early June," said CEO Eddy Cordier.

"It was no secret that we were looking for a right and left-back. With Daniel's arrival, we were able to fill one of those positions perfectly."

Opare becomes the second Ghanaian player to play for Zulte Waregem after Gideon Mensah who featured on loan for them this season from Red Bull Salzburg.

He also becomes the West Flanders-based outfit first signing ahead of the forthcoming European transfer window.
