Former Right to Dreams Academy player Edward Opoku, a member of the 2018 Generation adidas class, was selected with the ninth pick (32nd overall) of the Second Round by Columbus Crew.
The 21-year-old forward was born in Konongo, Odumasi, Ghana and came to the U.S. through the Right to Dream Academy.
He attended the University of Virginia from 2015-2017, making 53 appearances (all starts) while registering 16 goals and nine assists. Opoku was named to the USC Second Team All-American in 2016 and 2017, as well as to the USC First Team All-South Region in 2016.
Prior to attending the University of Virginia, went to high school at Millbrook School and was named the MVP of the 2014 High School All-American Game.
After his pick, Opoku revealed he was excited to be joining a team with a lot of familiar faces from Ghana.
He will play alongside Harrison Affiliated, Jonathan Mensah and Mohammed Abu.
