Former Black Stars and Fulham defender, John Paintsil has reiterated that the country would have crowned world champions if the country had qualified to take part in the tournament in Russia.

The senior national team the Black Stars of Ghana failed to qualify for a fourth consecutive place at the World Cup after missing out on the sole ticket to group leaders Egypt, placing third in Group E with 7 points.

“…If we had gone, we would’ve brought the cup home, that’s how I see it,” he told Accra based Power FM.

Explaining further, Paintsil observed that, “The more you play the football, the more you become experienced. It’s not about old players taking part. Ghana has been there (world cup tournament) in 2006, 2010 and 2014.

"In 2006 we were eliminated at the one-sixteenth stage, In 2010, we got to the quarter-finals stage, In 2014 we could have got the semi-finals stage.”
