Klopp ‘completely convinced’ Emre Can will sign new Liverpool deal

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has absolutely no doubt in his mind that Emre Can will sign a new contract with the club.

The German midfielder, 23, is out of contract at Anfield next summer and the Merseyside outfit are hoping to tie him down to an extension before the end of this season.

Can recently said that the delay in him putting pen to a new deal isn't down to money and Klopp is confident that an agreement will be struck in due course.

"The story around Emre is really only a public story, we don't feel it like this – we are completely convinced, he is convinced, I am convinced and in the end, it is a completely normal thing, we will talk about things and it [a new contract] will happen or not – and if not then it's a normal thing too," said Klopp.

"In this moment, it is completely all good."

Asked of Can's performance in central midfield in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Manchester City, Klopp added:"Good. Again, good.

"We've said it already, he had these calf problems and not a lot of players would have played in these moments. We were always in really close and intense talks about whether we could leave him out or whatever. There were one, two or three games where we could do it, but now we can't. It's how we said, we had these injury issues and that makes it difficult, but now it is good and he can perform like this today.

"He was very important, very aggressive and very clear in all challenges. He got maybe one or two fouls [given against] him, but there were much more on him. It was a good game, of course."
