Portugal boss Fernando Santos has admitted that skipper Cristiano Ronaldo couldn't sleep after his latepenalty miss against Austria, theMirrorreports.

After a frustrating evening for the Real Madrid star, Ronaldo ended his disappointing display with a shock miss from 12 yards in the 78th minute, condemning his side to a probable second place in Group F, one which they were expected to top with ease.

With Cristiano Ronaldo yet to make a significant impact on the tournament this summer, Santos has admitted thatthe former Manchester United man has struggled to sleep after their 0-0 draw with the Austrians, but stresses that he will bounce back from his recent dip in form: "Cristiano hasn't been able to sleep."

"On Sunday I was one of the first to wake up and he was already awake."

"Cristiano is Portugal captain and we can't expect everything to fall into place at once. He's a winner and his experience will help him bounce back."

"He can go one or two games without scoring but afterwards he comes back scoring five goals, like he has done on other occasions."

This isn't the first time thatRonaldo has attracted unwanted attention from the press at the Euros this summer, ascritics from around the world haveslated the comments he made towards the Icelandic side after their 1-1 draw, with the Portuguese captain claiming that they didn't want to attack, and will not achieve anything in the competition: "Iceland only tried to defend.

They had two chances and then did not try to score."

"They celebrated like they had won the Euro cup or something. That's a small mentality. That's why they'll do nothing."

Portugal have to beat Hungary in their final group game to have any chance of reaching the knock-out stages. Should they finish second however, they will be drawn against their old tournament rivals England in the next round.
