Southampton are lining up Atletico Madrid aceThomas Partey as Victor Wanyama's replacement,Mirror Sportreports.


Partey moved to the Vicente Calderon back in 2011 and he has slowly worked his way up the ranks.


The tough-tackling midfielder made several appearances for Atleti in La Liga this season and he made a brief cameo in the Champions League final defeat at the hands of Real Madrid.

However, the 23-year-old has struggled to pin down a regular spot in the starting XI and he could be lured by the prospect of guaranteed first-team football.


The Saints have earmarked Partey as a potential transfer target following Wanyama's decision to join Tottenham Hotspur.


The Kenyan midfielder was hugely popular amongst theSt. Mary's Stadium faithful due to his battling displays,yet he has been swayed by the prospect of challenging for trophies under his former boss Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane.

Spurs splashed out £11m on the 25-year-old's signature and Southampton quickly reinvested that by snapping up Nathan Redmond from Norwich.
