Aduana Stars goalkeeper, Stephen Adams has thanked Happy FM for the initiative of the Golden Bin Award after being voted as the worst goalkeeper of the just ended Ghana Premier League season.

The gong is given to top players that performed below expectation in the season under review, and the winner was declared via voting from advocates of the local league without any scrutinization from the organizers.

After being named as the goalkeeper with the most votes, Stephen Adams was not perturbed to receive this award, but clarified what went wrong last season that constituted his below par season as he lost his number spot to Joseph Addo and promised to bounce back strongly next season.

And speaking to Happy FM Anopa Bosuo sports, the defiant Stephen Adams said, “I would like to thank Happy FM for this initiative. I’ll receive this award in good faith, but there’re some things that was beyond me last season. After the first five matches in the season, I sustained a bad injury which kept me out for the large portion of the first round and by the time I recovered, Joe has taken the number one position with impressive displays.”

“I know that people expected more from me that’s the reason why I was voted as the winner of this award, but I can assure them I’m not too downhearted to have picked this award because I’m working hard to recapture my form when next season gets underway. I commend Happy FM for this award and I believe this will enliven me to come back stronger next season,” the Black Stars goalie concluded.

The award is the Ghanaian version of the famous Bidone d’oro that is given to players that performed poorly in Serie A, and players such as Rivaldo, Adriano, Cristian Vieri and Alexandre Pato have all taken home the award before since its inception in 2003.
