Two stunning goals from Tracey Twum and Mukarama Abdulai helped the Black Princesses of Ghana to come from behind to beat Nigeria’s Falconets 2-1 in the final of the women’s football tournament at the 13th African Games.

In front of a packed Cape Coast Stadium, the Black Princesses had to dig deep to secure their victory.

Throughout the contest, both Ghana U20 and Nigeria U20 women’s national teams showed a lot of character as a pulsating contest ensued in 120 minutes.

The Falconets of Nigeria in the game took the lead after 28 minutes when attacker Edeh Njideka took advantage of a howler from Ghana goalie Afi Amenyeku to find the back of the net.

Despite recovering from the setback very well to dominate the game, the Black Princesses could not equalize and trailed at halftime.

However, a stunning equalizer from Tracey Twum in the 78th minute restored parity to the game to make it 1-1.

Subsequently, the match travelled into extra time to give both national teams 30 more minutes to look for a winning goal.

Although the Nigerian defence stood strong, an amazing equalizer from star forward Abdulai Mukarama did the trick for the Black Princesses, giving the girls a deserved 2-1 victory.

The triumph over the defending champions has seen Ghana win gold in the women’s football tournament at the 13th African Games.
