20/21 Ghana Premier League: Kotoko to demand bigger share of TV rights in second round

Published on: 09 March 2021

According to information reaching footballghana.com, Asante Kotoko is planning to demand for more from the TV rights between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and StarTimes Ghana.

In January 2020, the Ghana FA announced that they have signed a five-year deal with the Chinese-owned broadcasting company.

The deal which gives StarTimes the Television Rights of the Ghana Premier League and the FA Cup competition sees the GFA receiving a sum of $5250,000 for the entire period.

Each year, the money paid to the GFA is shared to the Premier League clubs equally although certain clubs have more matches shown and pull insane numbers as well.

Unimpressed with the arrangement, Asante Kotoko is now set to write to the Ghana FA for a renegotiation of the TV rights with StarTimes asking for a greater share since their matches are shown the most.

According to a close source, the club has decided that if the GFA refuses to comply, they will not allow their matches to be telecasted in the second round of the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season.
