With the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League season set to start on Sunday, December 29, 2019, Karela United will welcome West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) on Matchday 1.

The two sides will locks horns at the Akoon Community Park which has been adopted as the home grounds for Anyinase-based top-flight club.

Having seen a lot of changes in the last six months, Karela United will hope it will not affect them in order to kick off with a bang that will be worthy of the maximum 3 points.

The club after losing its bankroller last year also saw its management team being dissolved. As if that was not enough, their head coach Johnson Smith has been poached away by giant Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

Ahead of the opening weekend of the Ghana Premier League, all these will play a part together with the fact that they only appointed a head coach just recently.

WAFA SC, on the other hand, will as expected rely on the youthful exuberance of their squad to try and upset their host. Knowing that Karela United has lost as many as 12 of their first-team players in the past year, the academy boys will surely go into the match with a lot of confidence.

However, the recent appointment of coach Prosper Nartey means that the side will not be well prepared for their first match of the season against Karela United.

The new gaffer will have to devise a potent plan that will be able to overpower former Ghana Premier League winning coach Enos Adepa who is now in charge of Karela.

The game is expected to be open, full of free-flowing football with a complement of entertaining attacking plays.

A draw looks possible and will be a fair result especially looking at the fact that the two teams have not had the best of preparations.
