Asante Kotoko suffered their first defeat of the season after losing 1-0 to Berekum Chelsea at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday on matchday three of the Ghana Premier League.

A lone strike from Kofi Owusu in the 7th minute of the game condemn the Porcupine Warriors to a slim loss in front of their home fans.

The Blues have now done the double over the most successful clubs in Ghana after beating Hearts of Oak on match day one at the Accra Sports stadium.

Kotoko started the game a good note but were stunned in the 7th minute after Kofi Owusu received a pass from Jeorge Ranchi inside the box and fired past Felix Annan into the left bottom corner.

The Reds responded with Emmanuel Gyamfi dribbling past two Chelsea defenders to cut into the penalty box from the left-wing but his shot was saved by on-loan Kotoko goalie Ibrahim Danlad.

After the break, the home-side piled the pressure on the Blues with Songne Yacouba and Augustine Okrah coming close to find the equaliser.

The home side went down to 10-men late in the game after Empem Dacosta was shown a second yellow card and a subsequent red for an off-the-ball incident.

Berekum Chelsea held on to seal a historic victory in Kumasi.
