A sensational hat-trick from Shafiu Mumuni on Tuesday night helped Ghana to post a 3-1 win over Cote d’Ivoire to ensure the team advanced into the finals of the 2019 WAFU Cup of Nations.

The Ivorians started the match very well and instantly took the game to their opponent who looked too relaxed.

Ghana’s defense, however, stood firm and gradually helped their midfield to settle and take control of the game. With the balance of the game match now shifted, fans were treated to some end to end action as both sides chased for the first equalizer.

Following continues surging runs into the final third of the Elephants, the Black Stars took the lead on the 38th minute. A clearance from an Ivorian defender in the 6-yard box deflected off the back of Shafiu Mumuni into the back of the net.

That goal separated the two teams at the half time break with Maxwell Konadu’s men well on their way to victory.

Cote d’Ivoire made some changes before resuming the second half but that, unfortunately, worsen their woes. Ghana increased its lead right from kickoff with Shafiu Mumuni heading home a cross from Augustine Okrah.

Five minutes after that goal, Shafiu completed his hat-trick with another thumping header to take the game away from their neighbours.

Attacker Abubakar Doumbia scored straight from a free-kick with 15 minutes to end the match but it was not enough to save them from suffering a 3-1 heavy defeat.

Ghana who is now into the finals of this year’s tournament will either face Senegal or Mali for the ultimate prize.
