2022 FIFA World Cup playoff: Ghana qualifies for Qatar mundial after 1-1 draw against Nigeria

Ghana has secured qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after drawing 1-1 against Nigeria in Abuja on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.

The national team nicknamed the Black Stars today locked horns at the Moshood Abiola National Sports Stadium today in the second leg of the playoff tie in the African qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Knowing that the first meeting in Ghana ended in a goalless draw, there was pressure on Nigeria to win at all costs.

Unfortunately, the Super Eagles could not fly high enough today with the Black Stars staying high up in the sky.

Following a very bright start in the first half, Thomas Partey scored with a long-range effort in the 11th minute to give Ghana the lead out of nothing.

After that goal, Nigeria came in strong as the team piled pressure on the visitors. Eventually, the pressure paid off with Nigeria scoring from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute through captain William Troost-Ekong.

From there on, Nigeria had one job, get a second goal to win the game in the second half to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

With the team failing to do so, Ghana held on the record a massive 1-1 draw and has hence secured qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
