2022 World Cup: Ghana's form guide ahead of the tournament

Published on: 07 November 2022

Ghana heads into the 2022 World Cup ranked 61st in the world. The betting number on the four-time African champions is 150-1.

The Black Stars of Ghana is Group H with Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.

Ghana made its debut in Germany in 2006, with further participation in 2010 and 2014. Ghana advanced to the second round of the 2006 World Cup with victories against the Czech Republic and the United States, however, they were defeated 3-0 by Brazil in Dortmund.

In 2010, they became only the third African team to reach the quarter-finals, carrying the dreams of the continent to South Africa. They finished ahead of Australia and Serbia in their group, then overcame the Americans again before falling to Uruguay in a contentious penalty shootout in Johannesburg. Ghana's last participation in Brazil was overshadowed by financial disagreement, and they were forced to leave early.

Black Stars coach Otto Addo released his 55 man provisional squad three days ago and he will trim the squad to 26.

The Black Stars will train at the Aspire academy and will begin their World Cup campaign in Qatar against Portugal on November 24 at the Stadium 974, followed by matches against South Korea on November 28 at the Education City stadium and Uruguay on December 2 at the Al-Janoub stadium to conclude the group stage.

Form guide:

Brazil easily defeated Ghana in a friendly in September at Le Havre, France. It was one of the Black Stars' five defeats in 12 games this year, which has not instilled confidence in Black Stars supporters. Ghana began 2022 with a stunning defeat to the tournament newcomers Comoros Islands in the African Cup of Nations, which eliminated the four-time Afcon champions at the first stage, prompting the firing of coach Milovan Rajevac. Ghana also lost 4-1 to Japan in the Kirin Cup in the middle of the year.
