2022 World Cup qualifier: We were not clinical upfront against South Africa - Ghana coach CK Akonnor

Ghana coach CK Akonnor says his side were not clinical up front against South Africa as they lost 1-0 in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Monday.

Bongokuhle Hlongwane's lone strike in the 83rd minute sealed all three points for Bafana Bafana at the FNB stadium in Johannesburg.

The win takes South Africa to the top of the table with four points from two matches in the ongoing qualifiers.

"We started well in the first half. We were tactically very disciplined," coach Akonnor said after the game.

"I mean it went the way we wanted but we were not clinical upfront and that was the problem.

"But I was satisfied with the way we played in terms of controlling the game.

"In the second half we somehow lost the game in the midfield with how we wanted to play.

"We believed we could win this match. We did one or two substitutions which went the other way around and somehow, we kept dropping and it affected our game."

The Black Stars now sit 2nd in Group G with three points but could slip down the group if Zimbabwe beat Ethiopia on Tuesday.
