2023/24 Ghana Premier League: Hearts of Oak beat Bechem United to escape relegation on final day

Hearts of Oak have beaten Bechem United 3-2 at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park on Sunday the final day of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season.

The Phobians had no option but to win as that was the only option they could survive the drop from the Ghana top flight for the first time in history.

Hearts of Oak finished 14th on the table with 45 points from 34 games while Bechem United finished 9th with 48 points.

Emmanuel Owusu scored the opening goal for the home side after 29 minutes into the game to put fear on Hearts of Oak fans.

But, just three minutes later, the Phobians pulled the equaliser through captain Kofi Agbesimah as the game tensions escalated in the relegation battle.

At the hour mark, Bismark Edjeodji restored the lead for Bechem United as he netted to put them 2-1 up.

Again, Hearts of Oak levelled through substitute Kelvin Osei Assibey who scored after 71 minutes.

Yaw Amankwa Baafi then found the goal that secured Hearts of Oak’s Ghana Premier League Ghana Premier League status for another season.
