The newly crowned champions of the Ghana Premier League, Samartex, concluded their triumphant 2023/24 season with a resounding 2-0 victory over Accra Lions in the final match of week 34.
The clash, held on Sunday afternoon at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena, saw Samartex, who were already at the top of the table with 58 points, face off against second-place Accra Lions, who had 51 points.
The match began with both teams fighting for control of the midfield. However, it was Samartex who drew first blood when Emmanuel Mamah scored a stunning goal in the 3rd minute, putting his team in the lead. Just seven minutes later, Emmanuel Keyekeh's impressive free-kick was skillfully saved by Accra Lions goalkeeper Daniel Afful, preventing Samartex from extending their lead.
As the second half commenced, Accra Lions started to dominate the game, dictating the proceedings from the 61st minute onwards. Despite their efforts, they were unable to break through Samartex's defense and level the score.
In the 87th minute, Ebenezer Papa Ocran scored a brilliant goal, doubling Samartex's lead and effectively sealing their victory. The match ended with Samartex winning 2-0, a fitting conclusion to their title-winning season.
With this victory, Samartex finished the season with a total of 61 points after 34 games, while Accra Lions remained in second place with 51 points.
