Former Brighton and Hove Albion manager, Chris Hughton, has officially taken charge of the Ghana national football team. Hughton, who signed a 21-month contract with the four-time Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winners in February, supervised his first training session at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, March 20.

The new coach arrived in Kumasi on Monday and was officially unveiled at the SG Mall. He wasted no time and jumped on the next available flight to Accra to take charge of the training session. Hughton led eight players through a light training session ahead of their doubleheader AFCON qualifying game against Angola.

Ghana will host Palancas Negras of Angola in a doubleheader 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games in Kumasi on Thursday, March 23, with the return fixture set to come off in Luanda four days later.

Hughton, who was technical advisor in Otto Addo’s tenure at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, brings a wealth of experience to the Ghana national team. He will be looking to guide Ghana to its fifth Africa Cup of Nations title, having won the tournament in 1963, 1965, 1978, and 1982.
