2023 Africa Cup of Nations: Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum urges Richmond Lamptey to “make us proud”

Asante Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, has urged Richmond Lamptey to make the club proud after being named in Ghana’s final squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Chris Hughton has finalized his squad for the upcoming tournament in Ivory Coast, and the 26-year-old midfielder has secured a spot among the last 27 players.

Alongside him, two other Ghana Premier League players, Jonathan Sowah and Hamidu Abdul Fatawu from Medeama, have also made the roster.

The former Inter Allies player's inclusion in the squad is particularly noteworthy, sparking a wave of excitement within Asante Kotoko.

Lamptey's invitation is being joyously celebrated by the club and its members, underscoring the significance of his selection for this prestigious event.

Taking to social media platform, X, Prosper Ogum expressed delight in the naming of Lamptey in the squad.

“Congratulations Richard Lamptey on your call up to the Ghana Black Stars team. I know and have confidence and believe in you that you will excel. Go make us proud the baller,” he wrote.

Ghana is set to open their group stage campaign against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024 - that is in 13 days.

The Black Stars will then play against record champions Egypt in their second group match against Egypt in four days before wrapping up the group face against Mozambique on January 22.

By January 2024, it will be 42 years since Ghana last won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1982.
