2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers: Chris Hughton aiming for second consecutive win as Black Stars coach in Angola

Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton will be aiming for a second consecutive win as Ghana head coach when they face Angola in the reverse fixture of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The former Ireland international was lucky to beat the Palancas Negras in the first leg at Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday in his first game in charge.

Bournemouth attacker Antoine Semenyo scored in the 96th minute to power the four-time Africa champions to victory in Hughton’s debut game.

The win puts Ghana in the driving seat in Group E with 7 points, having picked two wins and a draw in their first three games.

The 64-year-old former Brighton and Hove Albion manager is look to put up a better performance with the Black Stars in Luanda and win back-to-back games with Ghana.

Hughton, who was the technical advisor of the Black Stars for a year under Otto Addo, signed a 21-month deal as Black Stars boss last week.

A win in his second game as Ghana head coach would mean the Black Stars have qualified for next year’s tournament in Ivory Coast.
