2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers: Ghana fail to secure early qualification after draw in Madagascar

Published on: 18 June 2023

The senior national team, the Black Stars, failed to secure early qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after labouring to a goalless draw against Madagascar on Sunday.

Chris Hughton's side failed to create any spark in the game as their creativity was very limited in the entire duration, with no clear cut chances coming their way.

The Black Stars will now have to wait until September for their fate to be decided as to whether they will qualify for next year's tournament to be held in Ivory Coast.

The Black Stars now need just a point from their final group qualifier to book their slot.

The four-time African champions will host Central African Republic on September 4, 2023 at a yet to be decided venue in Ghana.

Ghana leads Group E with 9 points from their four group games where they have picked two wins and three draws.

The Black Stars have not won an AFCON title since 1982.
