Black Satellites captain Asamoah Kuffour says the players are grateful to get the opportunity to represent Ghana at the 2023 African Games being hosted in Ghana.

Ghana will open its campaign against Congo at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday afternoon in their Group A opener.

At the last African Games in 2019, Ghana did not progress from the group stage after finishing third in Group B behind Mali and Senegal.

Speaking at the pre-game press conference at the Accra Sports Stadium’s press room, Asamoah Kuffour was very emphatic about the team’s goal for the tournament while expressing their gratitude for getting the opportunity to be selected to represent Ghana.

"There are many young players out there looking for this opportunity and we are grateful to be selected to represent Ghana in this competition."

"We are ready and we are prepared enough to win the trophy.”

The team must first top or finish second in Group A that also has Congo, The Gambia, and Benin before thinking about the title.

Ghana has won one gold medal in the football competition and two bronze medals in the 65 years of the African Games.
