Black Meteors coach, Ibrahim Tanko has expressed his delight about the team's preparations ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) that get underway this weekend.

Ghana opened training camp in Egypt for about two weeks where they played two crucial friendly games.

The Black Meteors shared spoils in their first friendly against Egpyt's U-23 side before beating Zamalek 4-1 in their final game.

Ahead of Ghana's Group A opener against Congo on Sunday at the Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex, Tanko admits he has been impressed with the team's preparations.

“We had a very good training camp with two friendly games. We won one and drew one. I think the team is in very good shape and the players have improved very well. We used a different set of players in the two friendly matches because we want to give everyone a chance to show what they can do in the tournament,” he told the Ghana FA website.

“I am very impressed with the second team that played against Zamalek and I believe we can form a good side for our first game and for the tournament. We are here with 26 players so we have to give everyone the chance to show what they can do in the tournament. So far all of them have shown that if given the chance they can do well in the tournament," he added.

The Black Meteors arrived in Rabat on Wednesday and held their first training on Thursday night.

Ghana will take on host country, Morocco in the second group game before wrapping their group games against Guinea.

Ibrahim Tanko and his charges will be hoping to be part of the three finalists who will book qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
