2024/25 CAF Champions League: It is unfortunate we lost to Samartex - Victoria United Coach

Victoria United coach Daniel Walinjom has described their elimination from the CAF Champions LLeague by Samartex as unfortunate.

The Ghana league champions completed the double over Victoria United, winning the reverse fixture 1-0 on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium to round up a 2-0 aggregate win.

Speaking after the game, Ealinjom said that losing the first leg at home in Cameroon was their undoing.

“It was an interesting game because we came with all the determination to have a successful qualification. We faced some difficulties back in Cameroon.

“We should have had a better result at home, and then we would have secured qualification, but it's unfortunate that we could not achieve that. During our last game, we realized that our opponent had a weakness in their fitness.

“We have a very young team. Most of our players are still developing and have not yet reached full maturity in football. Some are playing at this level for the first time. We have players who moved directly from regional leagues and lower divisions to playing in the Premier League and the Champions League, which presented many challenges.”
