AC Milan intensify search for midfield addition

AC Milan have stepped up their pursuit of a midfield signing for the January window, with Stefano Sensi from Sassuolo and Cagliari star man Nicolo Barella among those linked with the club.

Having failed in their pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, Milan have turned their attention to targets closer to home despite the imminent return of Lucas Biglia from injury.

Sky Sport Italia understands the Rossoneri are firmly in pursuit of one of Barella or Sensi, with the Cagliari man seen as a more realistic addition for the summer.

Milan have been hampered by Financial Fair Play restrictions which has seen them reduced to only loaning in players with the possibility of signing them permanently in the summer.

Sassuolo have dealt the Diavolo a blow in rejecting their proposed loan deal for Sensi, despite offering to void their payment of the fee for midfielder Manuel Locatelli.

With Barella likely to cost €40 million, the negotiations for Sensi look set to continue with both sides looking to make the most of the situation.
