AFCON 2019: Andre Ayew rubbishes reports of conflict in camp

Published on: 09 July 2019

Captain for the Black Stars of Ghana, Andre Dede Ayew has rubbished reports suggesting that there has been some conflict in camp prior to the team’s elimination from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The West African side fell to a 5-4 defeat to the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia on penalties after playing a one-all draw at the end of 90 minutes plus extra time.

A good team goal completed by attacker Taha Khenissi on the 73rd minute was canceled in the dying minute of the match courtesy an own goal from Rami Bedoui to force the match into extra time.

The Black Stars later went on to lose 5-4 on penalties after new boy Caleb Ekuban failed to convert his kick.

Commenting on a possible rift in camp prior to the match, Andre Dede Ayew debunked the report and stressed that the atmosphere in the camp was always peaceful with no divisions.

He further applauded the performance of the team after a hard fought battle despite disappointingly bowing out at the round of 16 stage.
