Agyemang Badu not bothered by Black Stars snub

Ghanaian international Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has noted that he is not bothered by recent Black Stars snub as he stresses that he needs to concentrate on getting more playing time at club level after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Prior to the 2019/2020 football season, the midfielder moved to Hellas Verona on loan from Udinese.

Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with a fatal ailment and had to miss the entire first half of the season and some part of the second half.

Having been overlooked for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, Badu has also been snubbed for Ghana’s last 2 matches in the qualifiers to the next AFCON.

Speaking in a recent interview, the midfielder says his longtime snub is no problem because he wants to focus on rebuilding his fitness.

“I need to concentrate on playing games now due to my long spell out [because of a recent injury]. It’s everyone’s dream to represent their country," he said in an interview with Citi Sports.

Agyemang Badu added, “But to be frank I’ve played for the Black Stars for close to 10 years. I’ve won both the U20 Afcon and World Cup.

“I’ve played five Afcons, twice as a finalist and three times as a semi-finalist, and also played at the Fifa World Cup.

“I’ve played 86 times for my country and scored 11 goals, one of which was nominated for the Puskas Award.

“So if I don’t get a call up to the national team again, I’m still very proud of myself."

In addition to AFCON and World Cup appearances with the Black Stars, Badu is also a FIFA U-20 World Cup winner.
