Albanian football mourns passing of Ghana forward Raphael Dwamena

Albanian football in mourning for the loss of the attacker and captain of Egnatia, Raphael Dwamena.

The Black Stars attacker collapsed on the pitch during an Albanian Super League match on Saturday between his club Egnatia and Partizani Tirana.

Despite immediate medical attention, he passed away soon after. The tragic incident occurred in the 24th minute on Saturday.

Dwamena is one of the best quality foreigners who has landed in Albanian football. The Ghanaian striker, joined Egnatia last year and made a good account of himself before his passing.

The 28-year-old immediately showed his abilities as a scorer, while he ended the second half of last season with 11 goals in the Super League and 1 in the Cup of Albania.

Egnatia ensured a historic qualification in the Conference League, while for the first time it also tasted the Albanian Cup trophy.

Dwamena also did well in Europe with the Rogozhinas, in the two duels against the Armenians of Ararat, during which he scored 3 goals.

His demise has caused many people particularly his family, the club and the fans of Egnatia, but also to all Albanian sports fans.

Dwamena, the league's top scorer this season with 12 goals in 12 matches, made eight appearances for Ghana and scored twice internationally.

His career included stints in Spain, Denmark and Switzerland. Local media reports have focused on Dwamena's previous heart problems.

In 2021, he was hospitalized after collapsing during a game in Austria while playing for Blau-Weiss Linz.
