Amazing Set of Statistics Suggest Steven Gerrard Was Streets Ahead of Premier League Midfield Rival

The retirement of a legend of the gamecan only lead to one question - how good was he actually?

This seems like rather a silly question when talking of Liverpool great Steven Gerrard, who made over 700 appearances for his boyhood club, leading them to two FA Cup titles and one Champions League crown.

However, as always, that missing piece of silverwarefrom his otherwise full trophy cabinet - the Premier League title - still haunts him, and perhaps even his legacy when compared to other top flight legends who have retired from the game.

Both Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes, who played for Chelsea and Manchester United respectively, won 14 Premier League titles between them, as well as three Champions League trophies. The pair are often held above the loyal one-club figure that is Gerrard.

Scholes or Gerrard? We've all had the debate, but what does the @ManUtd legend think? 樂 #UEL https://t.co/fmNF7gACPn

Even when Scholes was asked on live television during his punditry for BT Sport who was better, himself or Gerrard, he replied that there's 'no question' who's better, referring to himself.

Well, according to this recent statistic, that has been dug up in order to restore Gerrard's legacy to English football, Scholes is right in one sense that there is no question, but it's definitely not the former United midfielder.

From these stats, Gerrard tops them all bar one, while Scholes finished bottom out of the three players in all of the categories.

Yes, people will argue that titles are what really matter, but considering the calibre Gerrard played with throughout his time on Merseyside (Ryan Babel and Charlie Adam, to name a few), the Merseyside has proven to perform no matter who lines up alongside him.
